Dear TTMA Members and Friends,

I want to start by saying how honored and excited I am to be serving as the President of TTMA. I have been actively involved with TTMA for over 10 years and serving on the Board of Directors for eight years including chairing the Annual Awards Luncheon for four of those years.  The last two years, I served as Vice President as part of wonderful years when TTMA accomplished many great things.

Membership is a huge component of our focus and a TTMA priority. Membership is the backbone of the organization, providing the time and space for members to network, gain education, and to connect with peers and to the greater travel and tourism industry. By connecting with one another we create long-lasting business relationships and serve as resources to one another helping each of our businesses. Our regular luncheons and events cultivate these relationships while presenting interesting and valuable content on our industry not offered anywhere else.

The main highlight of our TTMA year is our TTMA Awards luncheon, especially so in 2019 when we met at Dodger Stadium which we recognized for its invaluable contributions to travel and tourism, and so pleased to honor Caroline Beteta, President & CEO of Visit California. We recognize and are thankful for the strong support from the many TTMA members and friends to make the event so successful. We couldn’t do this without you.

While we are proud of our accomplishments in 2019, we are most excited about the year ahead.  TTMA kicked off the year with a fabulous luncheon hosted at City Club in Downtown Los Angeles, where 80 attendees heard from Ernest Wooden, Jr., President & CEO of Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board. He highlighted key LATCB initiatives for 2020, trends the industry is considering as well as key Los Angeles tourism metrics.  A big thank you to Ernie, City Club Los Angeles, and all of the members and friends who helped make this such a memorable event.

2020 already has brought a noteworthy change. Our board extends a well-deserved and heartfelt “Merci and Bon Voyage” to Executive Director, Michelle Carlen who will be stepping down in a few months to focus on her business and professional development consultancy. Please thank Michelle for the hard work and support she provided throughout the year, making us better organized and efficient.  TTMA is now seeking a new administrator; if you or someone you know is qualified and interested please contact any TTMA board member for more information.

The TTMA Board has also undergone some changes. We sadly say goodbye to long-time Board members Jane Sandmeier, pictured with President Sarah McCann, and Michael McDowell. Both served ably for years and we are grateful for all their work and many incredible contributions. We welcome to the Board Dan Lipton with TravelHost Magazine and Trevor McGaughey with T-Rev Productions.

As we move forward, I am more than honored to serve as your TTMA President for 2020. It is a privilege to work side by side with our Board of Directors and to continue the work of making TTMA even more valuable to all our members. We are a strong & vibrant organization because of each member.

I look forward to seeing you at our March 4 meeting, when we will we hear from Barb Newton, the dynamic President & CEO of CalTravel, the state’s largest membership travel association. Her comments about CalTravel’s involvement in tourism industry advocacy promises to be insightful. Again, thanks to each of you for your continued support of TTMA!
